Through the wilderness, we will find our way.

Welcome,

And thank you for being here. I am so grateful that you have decided to join me on this journey, to open yourself to traveling the unknown or overlooked landscapes that exist within motherhood.

The transition into motherhood was one of the loneliest experiences of my life. I felt uprooted, stripped of everything that I had ever known, and there was a gaping hole in what used to be my identity. Motherhood was a beautiful chaos that swept me, and life as I once knew it, off of my feet.

Over time, I began to equate motherhood to being out in the wilderness — lost, confused, and often trying to find one’s way back to what feels familiar. This is where the term motherness was birthed. Motherness — the wilderness of what we know as motherhood. The foreign territory that many women find themselves navigating, often scared and alone.

If you are here, my hope is that through my words and vulnerability, you feel less alone in your motherhood experience. This space is intended to thread community, because as often as we as mothers may feel alone, we are actually far from it. There are so many mothers across the globe navigating the wilderness of motherhood, and hope can only be found if we gather together and raise our voices to carry us home.

I appreciate your support in this publication, whether paid or simply just through the engagement of liking, commenting, and/or sharing.

With love and light,

Mariah Maddox
